Supreme Court Directs CBSE on Three-Language Exemption for Class 6

The Supreme Court has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to extend the three-language exemption available to certain students in Classes 7, 8 and 9 to Class 6 students as well.

The court's direction came in the context of students who are non-native speakers of foreign languages and related concerns over the implementation of the three-language policy. The exemption is linked to internal school-based evaluation rather than a board-level pass-or-fail consequence.

The court also directed CBSE to appoint an officer to reach out to the remaining non-compliant schools and ensure the exemption is implemented.
