Mangaluru Schools Strengthen School Bus Safety Standards
Ensuring the safety of students during their daily journey to and from school has become a major priority in Mangaluru, with schools and transport stakeholders being urged to follow strict school-bus safety standards.
A special school-bus safety awareness programme was organised at Town Hall by the Mangaluru City Traffic Police. The programme brought together around 600 school bus drivers, owners, managers and school representatives to discuss safer transportation practices and compliance with regulations.
Officials highlighted the importance of maintaining all required vehicle documents, fitness certificates and insurance. Schools were also advised to ensure that buses are equipped with essential safety features, including fire extinguishers and speed governors.
Another key instruction was the speed limit for school vehicles. School buses must not exceed 40 kilometres per hour, helping reduce risks and improve safety on the roads.
Authorities also encouraged schools to use only permitted vehicles and conduct regular safety meetings involving teachers, drivers, bus owners and parents.
With schools, transport operators and families working together, stronger compliance and awareness can help create safer journeys for students across Mangaluru.
Student safety must remain the first priority in every school transportation system.
